My name is Jorge, and if anyone told me that one day I'd become a Personal Trainer, I would have probably
laughed and walked away!
I was your average person with a gym membership (15 years!), being billed monthly with an attendance of
zero visits per month. Later on, I hired a personal trainer (PT) to help me with my gym adherence and
workouts though my inner saboteur would take over and I'd only show up when my PT session was scheduled
and do the bare minimum that I could get away, with practically no improvement to my gym attendance or
overall fitness.
Going out, drinking, dinner parties, coffee shops, overindulgence during holidays and making the most of
every day and every new experience! "I am a chef; I MUST try everything"; was my mantra!
It wasn't until 2016 when during a routine checkup, an anomaly was found in my liver. My immediate thoughts
were liver disease, all those years of heavy drinking and celebrations! Months of medical tests and wait
and I got my answer...
All the rich and careless eating and heavy drinking I did had caused a "fatty liver", in few words I
had voluntarily and willingly made myself into a human "foie gras", I am only quoting what the consultant
said to me in a very matter of fact way!
I had never been so relieved before, what if this was a second chance? But I was a chef and must sample
and eat everything! What will I wash my food down with? Water? Really? And what about the gym? I hated the damn place!
At the tender age of 34 I had a decision to make. I chose to eat myself into health (there's no way I'd
go to the gym!), all the knowledge, skills, and passion from cooking I translated into a clean and plant-based
lifestyle... In the first two months I lost 2st, I could not believe I was eating delicious and nutritious
food in large quantities, I simply removed alcohol, refined sugars, dairy, animal products and I was thriving!
(Without the gym of course at that stage!)
I'd maintain this lifestyle for the next couple of years, I reached a plateau and I was coasting
(physically and psychologically), I started to struggle balancing my life choices/lifestyle with social
events and travelling, I didn't want to have a set back and undo the great work I had accomplished so far.
There was no chance in this lifetime or the next that I'd go to the gym... though something had to change...
and I was willing to try something I hadn't before... I sat down and I made a list of the things I had done
so far when it came to going to the gym and I noticed some patterns, of how my inner saboteur would get in the way,
and so I created a new strategy to go to the gym.
A new personal trainer was hired and I told him in detail what I expected from them, my every need in alignment with my new
strategy, 3 months in and my body had totally transformed, I went from zero visits to twice a day, I had become a gym bunny!
I then trained to become a Sports Massage Therapist, and I was surrounded by some of the fittest people I had
ever met (most of them were Personal Trainers!), after hearing the best way to learn about the human anatomy
and the muscles is by going to the gym and becoming familiar with your own physiology, I love being a Sports
Massage Therapist and I wanted to be the best and deliver the results to my clients.
Without hesitation I revisited my previous strategy and I continued to improve my gym attendance strategy,
making it fun, vibrant, simple and most importantly a platform for me to thrive.
Fast forward, here we are all my passions, loves and skills merged into one, I became a Personal Trainer
where I get to share my love for food to empower people's eating habits, my coaching skills to empower
people to overcome the barriers in their progress and their inner saboteur and finally my passion for
Sports Massage where I get to highlight the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle to improve
movement and flexibility in the body.
My story started as active kid who loved sports, and did all sorts of physical activities... to someone
that was full of good intentions to be healthier and fitter, a gym membership that got paid each month
but with no benefits reaped, many New Year resolutions made but broken, too lazy to go to the gym, too
comfortable to do anything... and finally to someone who had an eureka moment and came up with a strategy
to turn my health, body and mindset around! I am now living my best, true and authentic life, exploring my
potential, thriving and most importantly enjoying every step of the journey.
